How does laser skin resurfacing work?
By using beams of light, the laser send short, concentrated pulsating beams of light to the targeted areas of irregular skin. This treatment removes unwanted, damaged skin in a very precise manner one layer at a time.
By using the resurfacing laser’s targeted approach creates fewer problems with hypopigmentation (now there’s a twist) or the lightening of your skin, for procedures such as laser acne scar removal.
The laser beam used in laser resurfacing simultaneously heats the underlying skin to stimulate growth of new collagen fibers. As the treated area heals, the new skin that forms is smoother, firmer, more youthful in its appearence.
Having darker skin does not always exclude you from laser resurfacing
There is a common misconception that laser resurfacing is only safe for lighter skin patients. There are certain lasers that pose a higher risk for cell damage or discoloration in darker skin, there are also safe and effective resurfacing options as well.
